St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus baseball team held its first Thanksgiving Clinic on Friday, Nov. 29 and Saturday, Nov. 30 in the Lund Center Forum. Thirty-five baseball players grades 2-6 took part in session one, while 18 players grades 7-12 participated in session two.
The focus of the first session was to teach basic fielding, throwing, and hitting mechanics all while focusing on having fun. Following an hour and a half of camp, a pitchers and catchers camp took place. The focus of the pitcher and catchers session was to teach campers proper mechanics so they can increase velocity and maintain arm health. Each day concluded with a scrimmage whiffle ball game.
The focus of the second session was to teach players more advance skills and drills to help prepare them for playing baseball at the high school or collegiate levels. Each athlete received instruction on throwing, fielding, and hitting mechanics from a member of the Gustavus coaching staff. The pitchers and catchers camp of session two covered basic mechanics, drills and training used at Gustavus.
