Women’s Soccer Takes On Augsburg Under The Lights Saturday Night

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s soccer team is set to take on Augsburg College under the lights in Minneapolis on Saturday night.  The Gusties will be playing their second consecutive match at night after defeating Buena Vista 4-0 on Wednesday under the cover of darkness.  The Auggies are coming off three straight losses, falling to Carleton (2-0), Hamline (3-1), and Saint Benedict (2-1).  They are also winnless in their last four, dating back to Oct. 5th.  Saturday night’s kick off is set for 7:00 p.m. on Edor Nelson Field.

Match Notes

The Series… Saturday’s match up features the 29th meeting between Gustavus and Augsburg in women’s soccer.  Gustavus holds the upper hand in the all-time series with a record of 16-10-2.  However, the Auggies have owned the series as of late.  Gustavus is winless in the last six meetings between the two squads with a record of 0-5-1.  Last season when these two teams met, it was a 1-0 win in overtime for Augsburg in St. Peter.  Bri Clark scored 2:05 into the extra frame to capture the two-goal victory.

Last Time Out… The Gusties last took the field on Wednesday night in a 4-0 win over Buena Vista in Storm Lake, Iowa.  Gustavus scored two goals in the first half and two more in the second to pull away for the four-goal victory.  The Gustie women got on the board early thanks to an own-goal by the Beaver defense just 3:21 into the match.  Coursey Edwards followed with a goal late in the first half to put the Gusties on top 2-0.  Maddison Ackiss and Amanda Cartony added goals in the second frame to push on for the win.

Under The Lights… Saturday presents an opportunity for Gustavus to play under the lights for the second straight match.  The Gusties are 1-0 when playing at night this season and 2-1 in the last two seasons.
