Mike Carroll To Enter Minnesota State University, Mankato Athletics Hall Of Fame

Mankato, Minn. – Gustavus Adolphus head baseball and women’s hockey coach Mike Carroll is one of seven individuals selected to enter the Minnesota State University, Mankato Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday, Sept. 27.  The Minnesota State Athletics Hall of Fame class for 2013 will be inducted at a formal ceremony taking place at the Hall of Fame Induction Dinner held in MSU’s CSU Ballroom.

Carroll, who graduated from MSU, Mankato in 1982, will enter the Maverick Athletics Hall of Fame in the builders category.  He is currently entering his 18th season as Gustavus’s head baseball coach and 15th season as the head women’s hockey coach.

Mike Carroll’s Hall of Fame Rundown

Three-year letterwinner in baseball & hockey at MSU 1975-80…First baseman on three baseball NCAA qualifying teams, including two regional titlelists. Team finished third in the nation in 1979-80 and seventh in 1978-79…Member of two conference championship teams (’79 & ’80)…Team captain and team MVP in 1979-80….Named all-conference and selected to regional all-tournament team in 1979-80…Established school records for season at bats (209, 1980), season hits (81, 1980), season triples (6, 1980), season putouts (400, 1980) and season fielding average (1.000, 1979)…Signed contract with Montreal Expos and spent 1980 and 1981 playing two years of pro ball.. Current baseball and women’s hockey coach at Gustavus…MIAC Baseball Coach of the Year in 2002…Six-time MIAC Women’s Hockey Coach of the Year (2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2011, 2012)…Has led Gustavus to five NCAA DIII Frozen Four appearances (two third-place national finishes, 4 fourth-place finishes) and owns a 314-70-23 overall record)… Has directed the Gusties to 11 MIAC regular season titles (2000-01, 2001-02, 2004-05, 2005-06, 2006-07, 2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11, 201-13)… In addition to coaching 55 players being named all-conference 47 times and five MIAC Players of the Year, Carroll has worked with 13 players who earned All-America accolades 21 times and two American Hockey Coaches Association Players of the Year, including four-time MIAC Players of the Year and four-time All-American Andrea Peterson.
