St. Paul, Minn. – Following a week in which the Gustavus Adolphus women’s tennis team captured a pair of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) wins, sophomore Laurel Krebsbach (So., North Oaks, Minn.) has been named the MIAC’s Women’s Tennis Player-of-the-Week. Krebsbach was an integral piece to Gustavus’ two wins last week, going 4-0 while playing the No. 1 position in both singles and doubles.
Krebsbach opened last weekend in an 8-1 Gustavus win over Saint Mary’s University on Saturday. Krebsbach teamed up with doubles partner Annie Mahoney (So., Duluth, Minn.) for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles, then proceeded to take care of her own business with a singles win in straight sets (6-0, 6-1).
The sophomore then turned around to produce more success in a 9-0 sweep of Bethel later Saturday evening. Krebsbach and Mahoney were victorious once again at No. 1 singles, winning 8-6 before Krebsbach downed her opponent at No. 1 singles one more time in straight sets (6-3, 7-5).
With the two wins, the Gusties improved to 7-6 (3-1 MIAC) and will next take on St. Olaf in St. Peter on Saturday, April 20th at 10:00 a.m.
