Men’s Tennis Ranked No. 18 In Most Recent ITA Division III Poll

ITA_logoSt. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s tennis team is ranked No. 18 according to the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III  men’s poll released Thursday, April 11.  The Gusties dropped one spot from their No. 17 ranking in the previous ITA Top 30 Poll released March 28.

In the central region rankings, Gustavus ranks in at No. 4, sitting behind Kenyon College (No. 1), Case Western Reserve (No. 2), and Washington University-St. Louis (No. 3).

Singles competitors Amrik Donkena (Sr., Rochester, Minn.) and Mya Smith-Dennis (Jr., Savage, Minn.) are both ranked inside the top 10 in the central region.  Donkena sits at No. 7 with a record of 11-8, while Smith-Dennis ranks No. 8. with a mark of 12-12.

The Donkena/Smith-Dennis duo is currently the top doubles tandem in the central.  The pair carries a record of 15-7 together and has won seven of its past nine matches.

The No. 18 Gustavus men’s tennis team is 14-8 overall and 6-0 in the MIAC heading into the weekend.  The Black and Gold will be busy on Saturday and Sunday with split squads competing in both St. Peter and St. Louis, Mo.  At home in the Swanson Tennis Center on Saturday, April 13, the Gusties will battle St. Cloud State at 9:00 a.m. and Augustana at 6:00 p.m.  The other portion of the club will face the University of Chicago at 4:00 p.m. in St. Louis on Saturday, and Washington University at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 14.
