Men’s Tennis Falls To Incarnate Word 8-1, Trinity 7-2 To Open Season Posted on February 6th, 2013 by

San Antonio, Texas – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s tennis team began its 2013 campaign with a pair of losses to the University of Incarnate Word and Trinity University on Wednesday.  The Gusties fell in their morning season-opener to Incarnate Word by the score of 8-1 in a match held at the Mabry Tennis Center.  Their day concluded with a 7-2 loss to Trinity on the campus of the University.  The Gustavus men’s tennis team will conclude its tour of San Antonio on Friday, Feb. 8 with matches against the University of Texas-Tyler at 10:00 a.m. and Texas Lutheran University later in the day at 2:00 p.m.

Incarnate Word swept the singles competition before taking 2-of-3 doubles points.  Amrik Donkena (Sr., Rochester, Minn.) and Mya Smith-Dennis (Jr., Savage, Minn.) provided Gustavus’ lone point of the match, defeating Jair Assuncao and Leonard Ivic at No. 1 doubles by the score of 8-5.

Brad Entwistle (So., Sioux Falls, S.D.) provided Gustavus a point in singles against Trinity later in the day, defeating Jordan Mayer in three sets 7-6, 1-6, and 10-8.  At No. 1 doubles, Donkena and Smith-Dennis picked up their second win of the day by topping Erick DelaFuente and Jordan Mayer 8-6 to earn the Gusties their other point of the match.
