Amrik Donkena And Mya Smith-Dennis Set To Play In NCAA Singles And Doubles Championships

Cary, North Carolina – Gustavus Adolphus tennis players Amrik Donkena (Jr., Rochester, Minn.) and Mya Smith-Dennis (So., Savage, Minn.) are set to compete in the NCAA Individual Men’s Tennis Championship Tournament of both the singles and doubles draw.  Both the singles and doubles tournaments will begin on Thursday, May 24 and will be held at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, North Carolina.

Gustavus’ No. 1 singles player Amrik Donkena will face Tanner Brown of Johns Hopkins to kick off the tournament at 8:00 a.m. ET tomorrow morning.  Donkena is making his third-consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championships, entering this season’s tournament with an overall record of 19-9.

Head Coach Valentini’s No. 2, Mya Smith Dennis, is making his first showing in the NCAA DIII Championships.  Smith-Dennis comes in with a record of 22-6 and has won his last seven matches.  He will take on Rob Crampton of Bates in his opening round match at 8:00 a.m.

Together, Donkena and Smith-Dennis will also compete in the doubles tournament.  Coming in as the No. 1 overall seed in the draw, the duo is 28-4 overall this season.  Donkena and Smith-Dennis will face Kevin Singer and Ryan Spencer of Texas-Tyler in their opening round match.  The doubles tournament will begin after 3:00 p.m. ET.
