Northfield, Minn. – In keeping with a strong tradition of success in the heptathlon, Gustavus Adolphus senior Erica Roelofs (Vernon Center, Minn.) did not disappoint in the final day of the MIAC Multi’s held Saturday afternoon at the Carleton Track and Field Complex. Roelofs compiled 1, 771 points on day two of the competition to finish runner-up with a two-day total of 4, 256 points.
Winning this season’s heptathlon competition was Kaari Jensen of Concordia, snapping Gustavus’ three-year reign that began with Kaelene Lundstrum in 2009, and finished with Janey Helland in 2010 and 2011. Jensen took first in five of the seven events, earning a total of 4, 829 points.
Erica Roelofs concluded the heptathlon with three finishes inside in the top-five. Her best performance of the afternoon came in the javelin where she recorded a throw of 104-feet to place second. She also went third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.38, and fourth in the long jump after clearing 15-feet 10.25-inches in the high jump.
Rounding out the top-three was Mandy Witschen of Saint Benedict who tallied 4, 066 points.
The Gustavus Adolphus track and field team will compete in the Meet of the UnSaintly, the squad’s final tune-up before the 2012 MIAC Championships, on Saturday and Sunday in St. Paul.
