Women’s Tennis Suffers 5-4 Loss To Incarnate Word To Start Texas Trip

San Antonio, Texas – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s tennis team suffered a hard-fought defeat at the hands of the University of Incarnate Word by the score of 5-4 on Sunday, April 1 in the Mabry Tennis Center.  The Gusties drop to 8-3 overall, while the Cardinals improve to 9-6.

Incarnate Word picked up a pair of wins in the doubles competition before going on to earn victories at No. 1, 3 and 4 singles.

The combination of Megan Gaard and Laurel Krebsbach defeated Casey Bulls and Andi Botha 8-4 to earn Gustavus’ lone win in doubles.

In singles, Gaard defeated Bulls in a three-set battle 6-1, 4-6, and 6-4 at No. 2.  The Gusties also got wins from Mary Roop, who defeated Francesca Bassoo in three sets 1-6, 6-2, and 6-3 at No. 5 and Mallory Shellum, who topped Lorena Rebolledo 6-4, 6-1 at the sixth spot.

Gustavus will continue its training trip in Texas with a match against Southwestern University at 4:00 p.m. in Georgetown.
