Gustavus Adolphus women’s tennis player Laurel Krebsbach (North Oaks, Minn.) has been named MIAC Women’s Tennis Athlete-of-the-Week for her performance over the weekend. Krebsbach picked up a pair of wins at both singles and doubles, helping the Gusties to a 9-0 win over MSU-Mankato and an 8-1 victory over Upper Iowa on Saturday, March 17 in the Swanson Tennis Center.
Laurel Krebsbach’s day started with a convincing win at No. 1 doubles. The rookie teamed up with her senior captain Megan Gaard (Edina, Minn.) to take down MSU-Mankato’s Kathryn Gavin and Shealyn Bakke 8-2. Krebsbach’s Saturday continued with a straight-set victory over Maverick Brandi Dohmen by the score of 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
Against Upper Iowa later that night, the North Oaks, Minn. native teamed up with Gaard again for her second win of the day at No. 1 doubles. The duo took down Amanda Nunez and Karli Loewecke 8-4. This season, Krebsbach is 8-7 overall in doubles and 7-6 when playing with Gaard.
Laurel’s day came to an end when she made short work of Courtney Romer at No. 2 singles, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 win. Krebsbach is currently 9-9 overall in singles following the weekend.
The Gustavus women’s tennis team is currently 8-2 overall and 3-0 in the MIAC heading into its spring break training trip. The No. 17 Gusties will be off next weekend before heading to San Antonio, Texas to face the University of Incarnate Word, Southwestern University, and Trinity University on consecutive days from April 1-3.
“Laurel’s game has really improved over the last month, particularly her play in doubles,” said Head Coach Jon Carlson. “Its fun for us because Laurel is just beginning her career at Gustavus. We’ll be looking for her to provide a consistent presence at the top of our lineup as we head into spring break and the remainder of our season.”
