Alissa Tinklenberg Named MIAC Women’s Swimmer-Of-The-Week

Alissa Tinklenberg earns MIAC Swimmer-of-the-Week honors for her performance at the Falcon Invite.

Gustavus Adolphus sophomore women’s swimmer Alissa Tinklenberg (Willmar, Minn.) has been named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Swimmer-of-the-Week for her outstanding performance at the Falcon Invite hosted by UW-River Falls at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center over the weekend.

Not being intimidated by an assortment of Division I, II, and III competitors at the largest meets Gustavus’ will compete in this season, Tinklenberg participated in a total of seven events – swimming three individual races and taking part in four relays.  The sophomore set new standards for the MIAC in each event while also hitting four NCAA “B” cuts.

The Willmar, Minn. product swam to a pair of runner-up finishes in the backstroke races, swimming a 58.00 in the 100 back and a 2:05.44 in the 200 back to meet the NCAA “B” cut standard in both races.  Tinklenberg’s other “B” cut marks came in the second place finish of the 400-medley relay (3:57.30) and third place finish of he 200-medley relay (1:48.61).

Alissa was also a member of both the second place 200 and 400-free relay teams.  The 200-free relay touched the wall in 1:35.83, while the 400-free relay turned in a time of 3:31.83.  She also made the podium in the 500 freestyle after swimming a 5:07.88 to come in third place behind of pair of swimmers from South Dakota State University.

Tinklenberg and the rest of the Gustavus swimming and diving teams will get some time off for finals week and the end of the fall semester.  The Gusties will be back in the pool over their winter training trip to Mesa, Arizona, competing in the Citrus Classic on Thursday, Dec. 29.
