Volleyball Falls In Straight Sets To No. 9 Concordia

Olivia Warren led the Gusties with a double-double, recording 12 kills and 15 digs.

The Gustavus volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss at the hands of No. 9 Concordia on Friday night in Moorhead, Minn.  The Cobbers cruised to the sweep by scores of 25-18, 27-25, and 25-17.  The Gusties drop to 5-3 in the MIAC and 18-8 overall with the loss, while Concordia remains in first place in the conference with a 7-1 league mark and a 20-3 record overall.

Gustavus’ Olivia Warren led the Gusties is kills with a game-high 12 (.171).  Concordia’s Jenna Green matched Warren with 12 kills of her own.

The Gusties made a battled back down 19-14 in the second set to tie the match at 21-21.  With the scored tied 25-25, back-to-back kills by Jenna Green gave Concordia a 2-0 lead in the match and it was all Cobbers in the third.

Gustavus hit at a -0.21 attack percentage in the match, making 36 errors and recording three blocks.  Concordia hit at a 0.98 percentage with 22 errors and six blocks, three of which were solos by Katie Vohnoutka.

Paige Breneman led all defensive players with a game-high 21 digs.  Warren completed a double-double with 15 digs, while Malea Noennig had 10 digs and 28 assists.

The Gusties will complete its weekend road trip with a match against Saint Benedict on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in St. Joseph, Minn.
