The Gustavus men’s cross country team finished the Dan Huston Invitational in eighth place with 216 points on Saturday in Waverly, Iowa. Loras won the 12-team event with 63 points, Augustana took second with 72 points and Wartburg took third at its home meet with a total of 83 points.
Simpson’s Ryan Edwardson crossed the finish line first in the field of 174 with a time of 25:35. Brian Pollastrini and Jonathan Smith, both of Augustana, took home second and third place, respectively, with times of 26:15 and 26:16.
Senior Anders Bowman was Gustavus’ top performer with an 18th place finish and a time of 26:56. Mark Bartley took 28th at 27:15, Tanner Davenport 55th at 28:28, Eric Jorgenson 57th at 28:35, Preston Tomlinson 58th at 28:36, Alex Thornton 61st at 28:54 and Leighton Becher 63rd at 28:56. The Gusties posted a collective time of 2:19:48.
Next up for the Gusties is the Jim Drews Invitational on Oct. 15 in La Crosse, Wis. The men’s 8K race will begin at 10:30 a.m.
