The Gustavus baseball team dropped two close one-run games to first place Macalester on Thursday afternoon in St. Paul by the scores of 4-3 and 3-2. Mike Holbrook led the Gusties at the plate as he went 3-for-6 with a run scored and one RBI in the doubleheader.
In game one, both Gustavus and Macalester scored two runs in the first inning and single runs in the fourth inning and the scored was tied 3-3 after six innings. The Scots managed to score the winning run with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. Kevin Roth led the Gusties at the plate with three hits in four at-bats and one RBI. Cody Sukalski suffered the loss on the mound for Gustavus. Sukalski pitched six-and-one-third innings allowing four earned runs and 10 hits.
In game two, Macalester scored twice in the bottom of the first and added another run in the bottom of the sixth to take a 3-0 lead. Gustavus rallied in the top of the seventh scoring twice to cut the lead to 3-2, but the Gusties left the tying run at second base and the Scots escaped with the victory. Timmy Miller suffered the loss on the mound for Gustavus pitching five-and-one-third innings allowing three earned runs on five hits.
