The Gustavus men’s tennis team picked up its second win of the weekend with a 9-0 sweep of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Sunday morning in St. Peter. The Gusties won every set of the day but one, which came in the hotly contested #1 singles matchup between Amrik Donkena and Chris Kuna.
In the #1 singles match, Donkena jumped out to an early lead, taking the first set 6-2. Kuna battled back in the second, grinding out a 7-5 victory to even the match at one set apiece. In the third set superbreaker, Donkena took the set 10-6 for the match victory.
Gustavus picked up wins in the other five singles matches, including Patrick Clark at #2 (6-1, 6-0), Juan Louis Chu at #3 (6-2, 6-4), Tyler Johnson at #4 (6-1, 6-4), Marcel Gyswyt at #5 (6-2, 6-0), and Joe MacGibbon at #6 (6-4, 6-1). The Gusties also earned wins in all three doubles matchups for the 9-0 win.
The Gusties will continue their 2011 campaign next Sunday, April 17, when they travel to Milwaukee, Wis. to take on Kalamazoo at 10:00 a.m.
