The Gustavus women’s soccer team opened the 2010 season with its first practice on Thursday, August 19. Head Coach Mike Stehlik welcomed 32 players to campus on Wednesday to begin preparations for the 2010 campaign. The Gusties open regular season play with a contest at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point on Wednesday, September 1 at 2:00 p.m. Stehlik will look to improve with an experienced squad that compiled a record of 7-8-3 overall and finished in a tie for ninth in the MIAC last year with a league mark of 3-7-1.
“We’ve got a lot of new faces this year,” Stehlik acknowledged. “Those new faces bring a lot of new energy and we’re excited to moved forward for the 2010 season.”
The Gustie women return six starters and 16 letterwinners. The returning starters include senior forward Ashley Anderson, senior goalkeeper Chelsea Bayer, senior midfielder Kenzie Del Santro, senior midfielder Nicole Kwapick, senior midfielder Karen Maus and junior forward Meghan McMillan. The remaining returning letterwinners include senior midfielder Meghan Faricy, senior defender Bekah Jorgenson, senior defender Abbey Maus, senior defender Ana Norell, sophomore midfielder Jordan Brunsberg, sophomore defender Nicole Carlson, sophomore midfielder Katie Eslinger, sophomore forward Kristin Moen, sophomore defender Hannah Murphy and sophomore midfielder Meghan Zenner.
