Gustavus Adolphus Head Women’s Tennis Coach Jon Carlson has been named MIAC Co-Coach of the Year along side Saint Mary’s Head Coach Jeff Halberg, as part of the 2010 MIAC Women’s Tennis Awards announced Friday, May 7.
Jon Carlson, in his 20th season at the helm of the Gustavus women’s tennis team, was named MIAC Co-Coach of the Year after leading the Gusties to a 29-10 overall record this season. It is the seventh time that Coach Carlson has been honored as the MIAC Coach of the Year (1994, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2010), and the first time since 2004. Carlson’s squad won its 19th consecutive MIAC crown this season, going a perfect 10-0.
Carlson has compiled an overall record of 450-138 in his career at Gustavus, carrying a winning percentage of .763. Carlson, a 1988 graduate of Gustavus, hit 200 MIAC wins this season, bringing his career MIAC record to 200-1. He is the first coach from the MIAC to reach the 200-win milestone in women’s tennis.
Coach Carlson’s squad carries the number one seed heading into the MIAC Women’s Tennis Playoffs held this weekend in St. Peter, Minn. The Gusties will take on Saint Ben’s at 9:00 am on Saturday, May 8, in the quarterfinals.
