Women’s Golf Continues Outstanding Play, Wins UW-Eau Claire Invitational

The Gustavus women’s golf team completed the most dominating spring regular season in the program’s history by winning the UW-Eau Claire Invitational by 20 strokes over host UW-Eau Claire on Sunday afternoon at Wild Ridge Golf Course in Eau Claire, Wis.  Katie Schenfeld claimed medalist honors for the third time this Spring and Gustavus golfers Schenfeld (first), Kali Griggs (tie second), and Taylor Drenttel (tie second) claimed the top three spots individually.

The Gusties, who won all four tournaments they played in this Spring, will now get ready to play in the NCAA Championships, which will take place May 11-14 at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey in the Hills, Florida.  Gustavus is ranked #2 in Division III in the most recent Golf World/National Golf Coaches Association poll.

Katie Schenfeld, Taylor Drenttel, and Kali Griggs were the only three players in the tournament to post back-to-back rounds in the 70s.  Schenfeld fired rounds of 77-76 to finish first at 153, while Griggs (77-78), and Drenttel (78-77) tied for second at 155.

Rounding out the top five for Gustavus were Ann Jackson with a total of 80-84-164 (9th place), and Amanda Woodhull with a total of 86-88–174 (30th place).

The Gustavus second team was led by Rikka Holiday who registered one of her finest performances of the Spring and finished seventh individually with a total of 78-85–163.  Other scores included Nicole Tetrault (92-93–185, 45th), Elizabeth Nadeau (95-92–187, 48th), and Kayleigh Dittes (97-100-197, 59th).
