Gustavus women’s hockey players Melissa Mackley and Kirstin Peterson were named to the American Hockey Coaches Association All-America team today. The announcement was made at the Women’s Division III Championship Finals which will be played this weekend on the Gustavus campus, in St. Peter, Minn. Mackley and Peterson, who were both First Team All-MIAC selections, are being honored on the All-America Team for the second consecutive year.
Mackley, a forward, was the Gusties second leading scorer with 12 goals and 17 assists for 29 points. She finished fifth in the MIAC in scoring with nine goals and 11 assists for 20 points, sixth in assists with 11 and third in power play points with seven (3g, 4a). The four-year regular for the Gusties served as the captain for this year’s team.
Peterson anchored a Gustie defense which ranked second in the nation in scoring defense allowing 1.18 goals per game. The St. Paul, Minn. ranked sixth in the country in scoring by a defenseman with 0.86 points per game (6g, 18a – 24 points).
Gustavus, which won its sixth consecutive MIAC title with a record of 14-3-1, enters this weekend’s NCAA Championship Finals with an overall record of 22-4-2.
