Gustavus Adolphus senior Kaelene Lundstrum was named the Central Region Field Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), and 2010 MIAC Championships Field Athlete of the Meet on Wednesday.
A total of 72 athletes, assistant coaches and head coaches received regional awards for their efforts during the 2010 indoor track & field season. Lundstrum is the second-ranked pentathlete heading into the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships with a best score of 3,468 points. She won the pentathlon (3428) and the high jump (5’ 6”), finished fifth in the shot put (39’ 7.75”) and finished sixth in the long jump (16’ 8.75”) at the MIAC Championships.
Lundstrum has totalled nine event wins at five different track meets this season. Aside from her wins at the MIAC Championships, Kaelene won the 55 meter hurdles (8.88), high jump (5′ 4.25″), and shot put (36′ 8.75″) at the Bethel Open, the pentathlon at the MSU Open (3468), the 55m hurdles (8.90) at the Meet of the Hearts, and the 55m hurdles (8.98) and high jump (5′ 3″) at the St. John’s Quad. Her score of 3468 at the MSU Open is a new Gustavus school record. Lundstrum also holds the school record in the high jump at 5′ 6″.
