Gustavus Adolphus Senior, and Mapleton, Minn. native, Janey Helland has been named MIAC Indoor Track & Field Field Athlete of the Week. Helland took first place in the Carleton Pentathlon on Friday night in Northfield, Minn. with an NCAA provisional qualifying total of 3011 points. Helland won the high jump (5′ 2.25″), long jump (17′ 2.75″), and 800 meter run (2:30.36) at the competition, provisionally qualifying herself for the NCAA meet in the Pentathlon and the long jump.
Helland also contributed a solid performance at the Carleton Meet of the Hearts on Saturday, helping the Gustavus women’s indoor track and field team to a first place finish. She took first place in the long jump with a leap of 17′ 3.50″. Helland placed second in the long jump earlier this season at the Ted Nelson Classic, and won the Cobber Pentathlon on Jan. 31 with 3182 points.
The Gustavus women’s indoor track and field team will compete at the SJU/CSB Quad on Saturday, Feb. 20, in Collegeville, Minn. at 11:00 am.
