Women’s Indoor Track & Field Takes First Place At Meet Of The Hearts

The Gustavus women’s indoor track and field team compiled 176 points to finish in first place at the Meet of the Hearts hosted by Carleton College in Northfield, Minn.  Individual event wins came from Allyson Voss in the pole vault (10′ 11.75″), Janey Helland in the long jump (17′ 3.50″), Becca Bryson in the triple jump (35′ 0.25″), Sam Broderius in the shot put (41′ 3″), and Diana Scott in the weight throw (49′ 3.75″).  Janey Helland also claimed first place in the pentathlon on Friday night with a total of 3011 points.

The shot put and weight throw were big events for Gustavus, as the Gusties filled three of the top five spots in both events.  In the shot put, finishing behind Broderius was Kaelene Lundstrum in third place (39′ 11.50″) and Diana Scott in fifth place (36′ 6.75″).  Anna Bauer placed third in the weight throw (45′ 3.75″), as Megan Endresen finished behind her in fourth (45′ 3″).

Other top finishes in the field events came from Sarah Baker, Abby Karl, Becca Bryson, Erin Sherman, and Holly Hoffman.  Baker and Karl both cleared 4′ 11.75″ in the high jump for a second place finish.  Bryson took third in the long jump (16′ 7.75″), as Sherman took fifth in the triple jump (31′ 8″).  Hoffman cleared 9′ 1.25″ to take fifth in the pole vault.

Top finishers in the track events included Karl, Janie Briant, Jenny Hendricks, Natalie Ristau, and Laura Sjoberg.  Karl placed second in the 600 meter run with a time of 1:38.70.  Briant took fourth in the 200 meter run (27.77), as Hendricks placed fourth in the 600 meter run (1:48.56).  Ristau and Sjoberg added fifth place finishes in the the 800 meter run (2:26.14) and 55 meter hurdles (9.54), respectively.

The Gustavus relay teams had a good day with a win in the distance medley relay (13:29.19), and a pair of second place finishes in the 4×200 (1:50.71) and 4×400 meter relay (4:09.06).

The Gustavus women’s indoor track and field team will travel to Collegeville, Minn. to take part in the SJU/CSB Quad on Saturday, Feb. 20, at 11:00 am.

On Friday night in Northfield, Minn., select members of the Gustavus women’s indoor track and field team competed in the Carleton Pentathlon held in the Recreation Center.  Joining Helland in the top five was Sarah Baker and Laura Secor.  Baker placed third with a total of 2441 points, as Secor finished fifth with 2187 points.
