The Gustavus men’s hockey team saw its six-game win streak come to an end with a 2-1 loss to St. Olaf in Northfield on Friday night. St. Olaf’s Devin Nitzkorski’s breakaway goal with 1:48 left in regulation play allowed the Ole’s to slip past the Gusties. The contest was a single non-conference matchup that does not count in the MIAC standings.
Rory Dynan gave the Gusties a 1-0 lead with a goal at 5:24 of the second period. St. Olaf tied the score at 1-1 when Britton Smith scored exactly eight minutes later at the 13:24 mark.
The game remained tied until Nitzkorksi tallied the game winner late in the third period.
Josh Swartout suffered the loss in the nets for Gustavus. He recorded 23 saves. Ben Lies picked up the win in the nets for St. Olaf. He registered 40 saves.
Gustavus is now 9-4-1 overall, while St. Olaf is 6-3-4.
The Gusties will face UW-Stout in a non-conference matchup tomorrow night at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter at 7:05 pm.
