The Gustavus women’s tennis team continued its dominance against Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference competition as it defeated St. Thomas 9-0 to extended the program’s MIAC regular season win streak to 186 matches dating back to 1990. The Gusties did not drop a set on their way to defeating the Tommies and finishing conference play with a perfect 10-0 mark. It is the 18th consecutive title for the Gusties.

The Gusties got off to a quick start in the match winning all three doubles matches. Sierra Krebsbach and Sam Frank defeated Allison Bruflodt and Alex Frank 8-5 at the #1 position, while Erica Dobson and Ali O’Neal defeated Madeline Gail and Hadley Syverud 8-0 at the #2 spot. Marianne Barau and Megan Gaard completed the doubles sweep by defeating Laura Thomas and Katherine Branflick 8-1.

Coach Jon Carlson’s squad maintained its momentum in singles play winning all six matches in straight sets. Marianne Barau and Erica Dobson won the #5 and #6 positions without dropping a game as Barau defeated Hadely Syverud 6-0, 6-0, and Dobson defeated Kathryn Lundquist 6-0, 6-0.

As a result of winning the regular season title, the Gusties earn the #1 seed for the MIAC Tournament, which will be played at Gustavus this Friday and Saturday. The Gusties will play the lowest remaining seed in one of the semifinal matches on Saturday at 11:30 am. The tournament begins with quarterfinal matches on Friday at 3:00 pm.
