Junior Kaelene Lundstrum won three events to lead the Gustavus women’s indoor track and field team to a first place finish with 178 points at the five-team Meet of the Hearts hosted by Carleton College. The Gusties took first in six events as they finished 44 points ahead of second place Luther’s 134 points. Other schools at the meet included Carleton, Hamline, and Macalester, which tallied 96 points, 66 points, and 42 points, respectively.
Kaelene Lundstrum (Bird Island, Minn./BOLD) claimed the title in the shot put with a NCAA provisional standard throw of 42′ 4.75″. She also won the 55 meter hurdles in 9.06 seconds and the high jump at a height of 5′ 1.75″. The additional first place winners came from field events as Laura Lynch (Sr., Waunakee, Wis.) won the triple jump (33′ 10″), Anna Bauer (Jr., Hastings, Minn.) took first in the weight throw (49′ 11″), and Janey Helland (So., Mapleton, Minn.) claimed the long jump title (16′ 4.5″).
Other top finishers in the field events included Megan Lundgren (So., Mankato, Minn.) and Lisa Brown (Sr., Lake Crystal, Minn.), who finished second in the long jump (15′ 7″) and shot put (38′ 8.75″), respectively. Lindsey TeBrake (Sr., Shakopee, Minn.) tied for third in the high jump after clearing 4′ 9.75″. Gustavus had a strong showing in pole vault claiming second, third, and fourth in the event as Kelly Nelson (Jr., Milaca, Minn.), Meredith Halling (Jr., Rochester, Minn.), and Linda Kanne (Sr., Franklin, Minn.) each cleared 9′ 6.25″.
In running events, Elizabeth Pringle (Sr., Northfield, Minn.) took second in the 400 meters (1:03.80), while Laura Secor (So., Stillwater, Minn.) and Lundgren finished third in the 600 meters (1:43.04) and the 800 meters (2:23.61), respectively. A pair of relay teams took second place as the 4×200 relay turned in a time of 1:50.73 and the 4×400 relay finished with a time of 4:16.55.
The Gusties will compete at the Saint Benedict Quad next Saturday at Collegeville, Minn. beginning at 11 a.m.
