Men’s Hockey Shuts Out Saint Mary’s 6-0 In MIAC Opener

The 14th-ranked Gustavus men's hockey team registered a shutout in its MIAC season opener with a 6-0 victory over Saint Mary's on Friday night in Winona, Minn. Head Coach Brett Petersen and the Gusties scored three goals in the first period, including two goals from defenseman Cody Mosbeck (Jr., Emo, Ontario). Goaltender Josh Swartout (So., St. Louis Park, Minn.) registered the third shutout of his career with 24 saves as Gustavus improved to 4-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the MIAC.

Men’s Swimming and Diving Team Wins St. Kate’s Invitational

The Gustavus men's swimming and diving squad finished first out of four teams at the St. Kate's Invitational in St. Paul on Friday night. The Gusties, who won four events and recorded six second place finishes, scored 699.5 points to edge Carleton (656.5) for the title.

Women’s Swimming Team Finishes Second Out Of Four At St. Kate’s Invitational

The Gustavus women's swimming team finished second out of four teams at the St. Kate's Invitational on Friday night in St. Paul. Carleton finished first with 809 points, while the Gusties totalled 555. sprinter Jonna Berry and diver Alicia Alvarado both recorded a second and a third place finish to lead the team at the meet.

Football Coach Jay Schoenebeck Featured On WCCO’s "On the Spot" Weather Forecast

Gustavus football coach Jay Schoenebeck was featured on WCCO-TV's "On the Spot" weather forecast on the Thursday night 10 p.m. news broadcast. The station chose to feature Schoenebeck in honor of his last football game as the Gusties' head coach. He has been on the Gustavus sidelines for 15 years as the head coach. Saturday's game against Concordia College has a forecast of 30 degrees with cloud cover and northwest winds gusting to 17 mph at game time.

Women’s Hockey Opens MIAC Play with 4-1 Win Over Saint Mary’s

The Gustavus women's hockey team improved to 2-1-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the MIAC with a convincing 4-1 win over Saint Mary's University at the New Ulm Civic Center on Friday evening. The Gusties were led by Melissa Mackley and Kirstin Peterson as both scored a goal and registered two assists . Mari Gunderson and Allie Schwab also scored for the Gusties, while Danielle Justice picked up the win in the nets.

Bridget Burtzel and Emily Klein Awarded All-Region Volleyball Honors

Gustavus volleyball players Bridget Burtzel (Cold Spring, Minn.) and Emily Klein (Red Wing, Minn.) were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region Team for the 2008 season. Both players earned all-conference honors, while Klein was also named the MIAC Defensive Player of the Year for the third consecutive season. Burtzel and Klein are now eligible for All-America honors.

Volleyball Season Ends After 3-0 Loss To UW-Eau Claire

The 17th-ranked Gustavus volleyball team saw its season come to an end after a 3-0 (18-25, 21-25, 21-25) loss to UW-Eau Claire in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday afternoon in St. Paul. Meghan Gehring paced the Gusties with 10 kills, while no other player finished with more than seven kills. Abby Freiborg was one of three Blugold players to register double-digit kills with 14. Gustavus ended the season at 26-5 overall with its first appearance in the national tournament since 1986.

Football Team Set To Face Concordia On Senior Day

Gustavus welcomes Concordia College to Hollingsworth Field for the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference season finale for both squads. The Gusties enter the contest at 6-3 overall and 4-3 in the MIAC, while the Cobbers come to St. Peter at 5-4 overall and 4-3 in the league. Tom Wheeler and Ken Erickson will broadcast the game on KNUJ 860 AM and through the Gustavus Athletics website along with a live video feed.

Volleyball Ready For UW-Eau Claire In First Round of NCAA Tournament

The Gustavus volleyball team will face the University of Wisconsin in Eau Claire in the first round of the NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 3:30 p.m. at Schoenecker Arena in St. Paul, Minn. Gustavus, which finished tied for second in the MIAC regular season, enters with a mark of 26-4. Gustavus will be providing a live video broadcast of the match with Tom Wheeler doing the play-by-play.
