Women’s Swimming Wins Seven Events, Defeats St. Ben’s at CSB/SJU Mini-Invitational

The Gustavus women’s swimming team claimed seven event titles and finished ahead of St. Ben’s at the CSB/SJU Mini-Invitational held at Saint John’s University on Saturday. The Gusties scored 1418.5 points, while the Blazers finished with 1075.5 points. Gustavus, which won eight of the 17 events, were led by Carrie Gundersen (200 free, 500 free) and Anika Erickson (100 breast, 200 breast), who both won two events at the meet.

Joining Gundersen and Erickson in the winner’s circle were Britanni Matzke in 3 meter diving (199.50), Steph Korba in the 100 butterfly (1:02.92), Marnie Luke in the 200 butterfly (2:23.53), and the 200 medley relay team of Jonna Berry, Erickson, Krista Koenen, and Britney Manthey (1:56.24).

Gustavus also recorded six second place finishes including Matzke in the 1 meter diving (193.85), Jonna Berry in the 100 backstroke (1:05.56), Maggie Hansvick in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.91), Dajana Vidovic in the 100 freestyle (56.60), Marnie Luke in the 500 freestyle (5:30.39), and Krista Koenen in the 100 butterfly (1:05.75). Six more Gusties also posted third place finishes. That group included Alicia Alvarado in 1 meter diving (165.90), Melissa Aune in the 1000 freestyle (11:52.17), Emily Amundsen in the 100 breaststroke (1:30.00) and 200 breaststroke (2:40.14), Allyson Hanneman in the 200 backstroke (2:29.47), and Carrie Gundersen in the 200 individual medley (2:23.24).
