The Gustavus women’s swimming and diving team dropped a heartbreaker to St. Olaf on Saturday afternoon in Northfield as the Oles rallied to win the final event of the meet (the 400 free relay) and edge the Gusties by two points 148-146. Steph Korba was a double-winner for Gustavus as she took top honors in both the 100 (1:02.92) and 200 butterfly (2:23.29).
The Gusties won six events in the meet including the previously mentioned to wins by Korba. The other four event winners included Carrie Gunderson in the 1,000 freestyle (11:01.91), Britt Matzke on the one-meter diving board (137.90), Anika Erickson in the 200 breaststroke (2:29.38), and Maria Freund on the three-meter board (191.10).
Gustavus stayed in contention in the meet by taking the top three spots in both the one-meter and three meter diving. Behind Matzke on the one-meter board was Alicia Alvarado (133.75), and Freund (116.60). Behind Freund on the three-meter board was Matzke (156.85) and Alvarado (154.60). The Gusties picked up 32 points on the Oles in the diving competitions.
Gustavus led 142-137 heading into the 400 free relay, however the Oles finished first and slipped past the Gusties to claim the conference dual meet 148-146.
