The Gustavus women’s soccer team traveled to Decorah, Iowa Wednesday night and battled the Luther Norse to a 0-0 draw after two scoreless overtime periods. Gustavus senior goalkeeper Ashley Ohlson recorded her first shutout of the season while making nine saves.
During the hotly contested match, both teams played at a hard, physical pace with Gustavus committing 13 fouls and Luther committing 12. Each team also received two cautions during the course of the match. Luther held the edge in corner kicks by a 9-3 margin.
The night ended short for the Luther goalkeeper Hannah Wright who suffered a lower leg injury after a collision with Gustavus first year forward Megan McMillan. The extent of the injury is not know at the time. Wright ended the game with three saves and her replacement Christina Soward made one in relief.
Gustavus, now 1-1-1 on the season, returns home for two games this weekend against defending MIAC champion Concordia College on Saturday and non-conference opponent Simpson College on Sunday. Both games will feature live stats on the Gustavus website.
