The Gustavus men’s tennis team jumped out to a 4-1 lead and held on for a 5-4 win over Kalamazoo College in Milwaukee, Wis. on Sunday morning. Coach Steve Wilkinson’s squad extended its current winning streak to eight straight matches. The Gusties will host the MIAC Post-Season Tournament at the Swanson Tennis Center and the Brown Outdoor Courts on Friday and Saturday, March 25-26.
Gustavus opened the match with two out of three wins in the doubles matches as Andy Bryan and Charlie Paukert defeated Jason Brown and Cyrus Jaden 8-4 at the #1 position and Mike Burdakin and John Kauss defeated Matt Wise and Patrick Boyd 8-5 at the #2 position.
In singles play, Gustavus was able to close out the match by winning at th #1, #2, and #3 positions thus clinching the match with the necessary five points. At the #1 position, Andy Bryan defeated Jason Brown 6-4, 6-2, while at the #2 position John Kauss defeated Cyrus Jaden 6-7 (4), 6-2, 6-1, and at the #3 position Mike Burdaken defeated Matt Wise 6-1, 6-4.
