Women’s Hockey Remains Perfect In MIAC With 3-0 Win Against Concordia

The Gustavus women’s hockey team posted its fourth shutout in five games as the Gusties defeated Concordia 3-0 in Moorhead on Friday night. Gustavus scored two goals in the second period and added another in the third period to remain undefeated in conference play at 17-0-0. The third-ranked Gusties improved to 22-2-0 overall, while Concordia dropped to 10-10-2 overall and 10-5-2 in the MIAC.

Neither team was able to put much pressure on the goaltenders as both squads skated into the first intermission in a scoreless tie. Gustavus goaltender Breanna Scavo faced three shots in the opening period compared to six saves for Concordia goaltender Maddie Haroldson.

Gustavus got on the scoreboard quickly in the second period when Stefanie Ubl scored her 14th goal of the season at the 1:42 mark on an assist from Jenny Pusch. Christine Wicker extended the lead to 2-0 at 8:51 after a pass from Kirstin Peterson for her 15th assist of the season.

The Gusties added to their lead midway through the third period as Mari Gunderson kept pace with Ubl as the team’s leading scorer with assists credited to Alyssa Saunders and Melissa Mackley. Scavo recorded her seventh shutout of the season with eight saves as her record improved to 19-2-0. Haroldson suffered the loss with 25 saves, including 13 in the third period, as her record fell to 6-5-1.

Both squads will finish the series at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Moorhead as the Gusties will look to become the first team in MIAC women’s hockey history to finish the conference schedule 18-0-0.
