Gustavus Adolphus College senior guard Jess Vadnais (Hudson, Wis.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending January 28, 2008. Vadnais averaged 22.7 points and 3.33 steals per game to help the Gusties finish the week a perfect 3-0, extend their win streak to five and stay in the conference title race.

In a key 77-73 road overtime win at Carleton, Vadnais had 23 of her 25 points in the second half. She hit two go-ahead free throws with :39 remaining in overtime to give the Gusties a 75-73 lead. Vadnais then posted 18 points and three assists as Gustavus won 72-45 against Macalester on Wednesday. She would go on to score 25 points on 8-10 shooting and 3-4 from behind the three-point line in a victory over Augsburg. In the three games, Vadnais shot 63.6 percent from the field (21-33) and 84 percent from the free throw line (21-25) and had only three turnovers. Vadnais leads the team in scoring (19.0 ppg).

Vadnais, a health fitness major, is the daughter of Jerry and Jeanne Hautala of Hudson, Wis. and a 2004 graduate of Hudson High School.

The Gusties, who are 10-6 overall and 9-4 in the MIAC, will host Bethel on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. and St. Catherine on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. in St. Peter.
