The Gustavus women’s gymnastics team placed third at the Hamline Inviational on Friday night scoring 169.975. The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse finished first at 177.375 and host Hamline placed second at 172.825. Gustavus freshman Kelly Mathewson finished fourth in the all-around with a score of 34.50.
Gustavus scored 43.75 on the vault, 40.625 on the uneven bars, 42.30 on the balance beam, and 43.30 on the floor exercise.
Jessica Dolan scored 9.075 to lead the Gusties on the vault. Dolan’s score was good for fourth place individually. On the uneven bars, Kristine Askham posted a total of 8.675 to tie for second place. Mathewson finished third with a score of 8.575. Dolan also led the Gusties on the balance beam with a score of 8.950. Mathewson placed eighth with a score of 8.850. On the floor exercise, Jennifer Berglund placed fourth with a score of 9.025. Berglund was making her first appearance of the season for the Gusties.
Mathewson turned in a solid performance in the all-around with a score of 34.50. She posted scores of 8.325 on the vault, 8.575 on the bars, 8.85 on the balance beam, and 8.75 on the floor exercise.
The Gusties will travel to Menonomie, Wis. on Friday, Jan. 25 to take part in the UW-Stout Invitational.
