The Gustavus women’s hockey team extended its current winning streak to 10 games with a 6-0 win over St. Olaf on Friday night at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter. The Golden Gusties also extended their power play goal scoring streak to 11 games with two power play goals, breaking the previous record of 10 games set in 2005-06 season. In a non-conference game against a MIAC opponent, Gustavus improved its overall record to 10-1, as St. Olaf fell to 4-7-0.

Jessica Doig (Jr., New Prague, Minn.) put Gustavus on the scoreboard at 12:14 in the first period with a rebound on the right side of the crease after a Jenna Johnson (So., Shoreview, Minn.) shot. The Gusties would have a two skater advantage later in the period, but would not be able to capitalize as St. Olaf killed both penalties to end the period with a 1-0 score.

Gustavus quickly found the back of the net :37 into the second period as Molly Doyle (Sr., Richfield, Minn.) scored her sixth goal of the season with assists being credited to Allie Harwood (Fy., Rochester, Minn.) and Stefanie Ubl (Sr., Blaine, Minn.). The Gusties would strike a minute later on a power play as Ubl scored her team-leading seventh goal at 1:46 in the period. Doig would tally her second goal of the game at 13:05 with assists from Harwood and Kirstin Peterson (Fy., St. Paul, Minn.). Gustavus held a 18-1 shots on goal advantage during the period as it went into intermission with a 4-0 lead.

St. Olaf had four power play opportunities throughout the last period of the game, but was able to get only two shots through to Gustavus goaltender Breanna Scavo between the chances. Coach Carroll’s squad would get on the board before the end of the game as Laura Hillman (So., Albert Lea, Minn.) scored an unassisted goal at 9:32. Linda Evans (Fy., Fairbanks, AK) added the second Gustie power play goal with 3:51 left in the game on a rebound.

Three Gustie skaters tallied multiple points in the contest, including Ubl with one goal and two assists, Doig with two goals, and Hillman with one goal and an assist. Defensively, Gustavus held the Oles to five shots on goal compared to 44 shots for the Gusties. Breanna Scavo (So., Blaine, Minn.) posted her second shutout of the season to improve her record to 9-1-0 after making five saves. Sarah Mills recorded 38 saves in the losing effort for the Oles as her record dropped to 1-2-0. Gustavus will travel to Winona on Saturday to face Saint Mary’s in another non-conference game against a MIAC opponent at 4:00 pm. St. Olaf will host a pair of games against Oswego State on Saturday and Sunday in Northfield.
