Men’s Soccer Falls to Whitworth 2-1 in Overtime in First Round of NCAA Tournament

The Whitworth University men's soccer team claimed a 2-1 overtime victory over Gustavus Adolphus College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament on Friday night in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Whitworth will now advance to the second round to face the winner of Wartburg/UW-Oshkosh on Saturday, November 10 in Oshkosh, Wis. at 6:00 pm.

Men’s Hockey Team Suffers First Loss of the Season, Falls to UW-River Falls 6-5

The Gustavus men's hockey team got down 4-0 and then made a late run at #3 UW-River Falls, but came up just short in a 6-5 loss on the road. Five different Gustavus players scored in the contest. Nick Kellogg suffered the loss in the nets. The Gusties, who are now 2-1-0 on the season, will face #6 UW-Stout on Saturday night at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter, Minn.

Gustavus Swimming Programs Set to Take Part in Ted Mullins Hour of Power to Benefit Cancer Research

The Gustavus Adolphus College swimming and diving teams are taking part in the second annual Ted Mullin Hour of Power Relay for cancer research on Tuesday, Nov. 6 beginning at 4 p.m. in honor of former Carleton swimmer Edward H. "Ted" Mullin, who passed away from a rare soft-tissue cancer in September 2006.

Mike Butterworth Named MIAC Men’s Soccer Athlete of the Week

Gustavus forward Mike Butterworth (Sr., Katy, Tex.) has been named the MIAC Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week as voted on by league coaches. Butterworth scored a goal in both MIAC Post-Season games this week, helping the Gusties claim their second consecutive conference tournament title and earn an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. Butterworth scored the game-winning goal against St. Thomas with 1:20 remaining for a 2-1 victory in the semifinals.

Men’s Hockey Team Surprises #2 St. Norbert With 4-2 Road Win

The Gustavus men's hockey team moved to 2-0 on the season with an impressive 4-2 win at #2 St. Norbert on Saturday evening. Rory Dynan scored what turned out to be the gamewinner at 12:33 of the second period. Patrick Dynan solidified the win with an empty net goal with :20 left in regulation play. Matt Lopes proved to be the difference in the nets for the Gusties as the junior transfer made 27 saves in the game.

Men’s and Women’s Swimming Fall to MSU, Mankato in Dual Meet Season Opener

The Gustavus men's swimming team fell in its 2007-08 dual meet opener with a 111.5-127.5 loss to Minnesota State University, Mankato, while the Gustavus women's swimming team dropped its dual opener to MSU, Mankato 65-176. The meet was held on the MSU, Mankato campus Saturday afternoon.

Women’s Hockey Loses Season Opener 5-1 To UW-Stevens Point

Despite having a 35-12 shot advantage and nine power plays, the Gustavus women's hockey team fell to UW-Stevens Point 5-1 in St. Peter Saturday afternoon in the season opener. The Pointers scored two goals in a three-minute span during the first period to provide all of the offense needed for the win. UW-Stevens Point goalkeeper D'andra Phillips withstood intense pressure making 34 saves in the match.

Men’s Soccer Wins Second Straight MIAC Tournament; Advances to NCAA Tournament

Bret Vander Streek (So., Pella, Iowa) broke a scoreless tie early in the second half to help the Gustavus men's soccer team win its second straight MIAC Tournament by defeating St. Olaf 2-0 Saturday afternoon in St. Peter. Gustavus has won four of the five MIAC Post-Season Tournaments and every final the team has played in. With the victory, the Gusties earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament, making its fourth consecutive appearance.

Football Team Falls to Concordia 34-24

The Gustavus football team fell to 4-5 overall and 2-5 in the MIAC with a 34-24 loss to Concordia at Lloyd Hollingsworth Field in St. Peter, Minn. on Saturday afternoon. The Gusties were not able to slow down the vaunted Cobber running game as Concordia carried 60 times for 225 yards and four touchdowns. Junior wide receiver Chad Arlt had another big day as he made 11 catches for 153 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Gusties.

Gustavus Set to Induct Eight New Members into Athletics Hall of Fame On Saturday

The Gustavus Adolphus College Athletics Department has chosen eight individuals for induction into its Athletics Hall of Fame. The 2007 inductees include Tim DeJarlais, John Erickson, Dave Hultgren, Craig Miller, Mindy Mayerchak Oosten, Mike Schumacher, Ryan Skanse, and Ann Sommerness Simms. The group will be inducted at a banquet at 6:00 pm on campus on Saturday, November 3 .
