The Gustavus women’s soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss at Macalester on Wednesday night. The Scots controlled play for much of the match outshooting the Gusties 20-2 and holding a 7-1 advantage on corner kicks. Becca Hagen scored the lone goal for Gustavus with 5:20 remaining in the game.
The Scots jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Grace Geiger with just under four minutes remaining in the first half. Macalester led 1-0 at the intermission.
Macalester extended its lead to 2-0 when Lauryn Gutierrez scored 11 minutes into the second half (56:38) with an assist from Meghan Garrity.
Gustavus closed the gap to 2-1 when Becca Hagen scored an unassisted goal in the 84th minute. It was Hagen’s fourth goal of the season.
Gustavus goalkeeper Ashley Ohlson made six saves in the match, while Macalester goalkeeper Jenny Lee did not make a save as the Gusties scored on their only shot on goal in the contest.
Gustavus, which is now 8-9-0 overall and 3-7-0 in the MIAC, will wrap up its season at home on Saturday against St. Thomas at 1:00 pm.
