The Gustavus women’s soccer team allowed two first half goals and suffered its third consecutive shutout losing to UW-La Crosse 2-0 in La Crosse, Wisconsin. The Gusties are now 7-8-0 overall on the season.
UW-La Crosse wasted no time scoring its first goal as Aimee Schneider found the net just one minute into the match. Amy Cory and Erin Wilson were credited with assists.
Late in the first half, UW-La Crosse extended its lead to 2-0 when Ramsey Weyenberg scored in the 39th minute. Jennifer Schlessinger was credited with the assist.
Statistically, the game was very evenly played, however the Gusties continued to struggle to score goals as they failed to score for the third consecutive match. Both teams were credited with 20 shots, while the Eagles held a slim 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. UW-La Crosse goalkeeper Amanda Clark recorded five saves, while Gustavus goalkeeper Chelsea Bayer made two saves.
The game was played on a cool and rainy day as the temperature was 54 degrees at game time with a steady rain falling.
Gustavus will try to snap a three-game losing streak next Saturday against St. Catherine in St. Paul.
