The Gustavus women’s soccer team battled UW-Stevens Point to a 1-1 tie through the first 45 minutes, however the Pointers scored twice within one minute early in the second half to post a 3-1 win over the Gusties in St. Peter. Amy Kunkel scored the lone goal for Gustavus.
The Pointers struck early in the game as Amanda Prawat scored an unassisted goal just :31 seconds into the match. The Gusties battled back and tied the score at 1-1 when Amy Kunkel scored in the 31st minute off an assist from Christy Tupy. The two squads were tied at 1-1 at halftime. The Pointers outshot the Gusties 9-4 in the first half.
UW-Stevens Point took a 2-1 lead at the 52:40 mark as Jackie Speese scored off a pass from Kaylee Weise. The Pointers extended their lead to 3-1 just a minute later as Amanda Prawat scored her second goal of the game at the 53:39 mark. Weise picked up her second assist.
The Gusties were outshot 18-10 by UW-Stevens Point. Goalkeeper Ashley Ohlson suffered her first loss of the season in the nets for Gustavus. Ohlson recorded nine saves. Meredith Decaluwe was the winning goalkeeper for UW-Stevens Point.
Gustavus dropped to 2-1 overall, while UW-Stevens Point improved to 2-0-1. The Gusties will now travel to Menomonie, Wisconsin tomorrow night for a 7:00 pm match against the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
