Eric Butorac Wins First Round Doubles Match at Wimbledon

Former Gustavus tennis standout Eric Butorac (Class of 2003) teamed with partner Jaime Murray (Great Britain) to defeat Oscar Hernandez (Spain) and Potito Starace (Italy) 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 in a first round match at The Championships at Wimbledon in London, England on Thursday afternoon (Thursday night in London). Butorac and Murray, who are currently rated #14 in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) World Rankings, will now face Jonathan Erlich (Israel) and Andy Ram (Israel) on Saturday.

Gustavus Finishes 11th in 2006-07 U.S. Sports Academy Directors’ Cup Standings

The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and the United States Sports Academy have announced the final totals for the 2006-07 Directors' Cup and Gustavus finished 11th out of 435 competing NCAA Division III institutions. The Directors' Cup, which is the only all-sports competition in intercollegiate athletics, is awarded to four-year institutions in the NCAA and NAIA with the best overall athletic programs.

Men’s Tennis Player Andy Bryan Named to CoSIDA Academic All-America Team

Gustavus Adolphus College junior men's tennis player Andy Bryan (Edina, Minn.) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Men's At-Large Team as released by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Bryan is a College Division Second Team selection.

Hailey Harren, Tanner Miest, Alex Zupan Named Academic All-District V by CoSIDA

Gustavus Adolphus College student-athletes Hailey Harren, Tanner Miest, and Alex Zupan have been named to the 2007 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District V College Division Track & Field/Cross Country Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). All three athletes were named to the first team and advance to the national ballot.

Gymnast Nicole Gergen Named NCAA Postgraduate Scholar

Gustavus Adolphus College student-athlete Nicole Gergen (gymnastics) has been selected as one of 58 student-athletes from across the country to receive a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship for the winter sport season. Gergen was the only student-athlete from a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference institution selected to receive the $7,500 award this winter.

Five Gusties Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District V College Division At-Large Teams

Five Gustavus Adolphus College student athletes were recognized recently as the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) released the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V College Division At-Large Teams. Andy Bryan (men's tennis), Margaret Dorer (women's hockey), and Nicole Gergen (gymnastics) were named to the first team, while Connor Ziegler (men's swimming and diving) and Jaime Gaard (women's tennis) were honored on the second team.

Softball Player Rachael Click Named to CoSIDA Academic All-America Team

Gustavus shortstop Rachael Click, a sophomore from Rochester, Minnesota, has been named to College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America softball team. Click is a Third Team College Division selection. The CoSIDA Academic All-America team is sponsored by ESPN The Magazine.
