Men’s Basketball Rides Hot Shooting to 80-57 Win Over Concordia

The Gustavus Adolphus men's basketball team shot 61.5% from the field and held a 2-to-1 advantage in rebounds en route to a 80-57 win over Concordia Monday in St. Peter. Andrew Doble led four Gusties in double-figures with 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting off the bench. The Gusties (12-9, 10-6 MIAC) host league-leader St. Thomas (20-2, 16-1 MIAC) Wednesday at Gus Young Court.

Sarah Windhorst Named MIAC Women’s Hockey Player of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus College first year goalie Sarah Windhorst (Eden Prairie, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending February 4, 2007. Windhorst posted a 2-0-0 record with 39 saves on the week in wins at then-No. 5 UW-Superior (4-2) and at rival St. Thomas (8-0). Windhorst did not play in Saturday's 1-0 loss to the Tommies.

Men’s Swimming Closes Out Regular Season with Dual Meet Win Against UW-Stevens Point

The Gustavus men's swimming and diving team closed out its regular season schedule by defeating UW-Stevens Point 169.5 to 148.5 in the Lund Natatorium in St. Peter, Minn. The Gusties swam extremely well winning nine of the 17 events and setting six new pool records. Matt Stewart led the way as he won the 200 fly, the 500 free, and the 200 individual medley setting three pool records in the process.

Indoor Track and Field Competes at MSU Open

The Gustavus Adolphus indoor track and field teams made the short trek to Mankato Saturday to take part in the MSU Open hosted by Minnesota State University, Mankato. Andy Klaers won the weight throw with a toss of 54 feet, 5.5 inches. No team scores were kept.

Men’s Tennis Opens 0-3 in Hawai’i

The Gustavus Adolphus men's tennis team opened their season with three losses in Hawai'i over the weekend. The Gusties fell to Hawai'i Pacific University 8-1 on Thursday, BYU-Hawai'i 6-3 on Friday and the University of Hawai'i 7-0 on Saturday. HPU and BYU-Hawai'i are NCAA Division II schools, while Hawai'i is a NCAA Division I school.

Men’s Basketball Clips Saint Mary’s 72-61

Senior Phil Sowden led all players with 21 points and 10 rebounds as the Gustavus Adolphus men's basketball team posted a 72-61 victory over Saint Mary's Saturday at Gus Young Court in St. Peter. Gustavus (11-9, 9-6 MIAC) led by as much as 23 points midway through the second half before Saint Mary's (7-13, 6-10 MIAC) mounted a late charge to cut the lead to single digits. The Gusties host Concordia Monday evening.

Women’s Basketball Extends Win Streak to Ten With 68-32 Win Over Saint Mary’s

The Gustavus women's basketball team jumped out to a 14-2 lead and never looked back on their way to a convincing 68-32 win over St. Mary's at Gus Young Court in St. Peter. The Gusties were led by Jess Vadnais with 16 points and Julia Schultz with 10. Gustavus is now 18-2 overall and 15-2 in the MIAC.

Women’s Hockey’s 17-Game Winning Streak Halted by St. Thomas 1-0

The Gustavus Adolphus women's hockey team saw its 17-game winning streak and its 33-game league unbeaten streak snapped Saturday with a tough, hard-fought 1-0 loss to rival St. Thomas at Don Roberts Ice Rink. Marie Omann scored a short-handed goal just seven seconds into the second period to provide the game's lone scoring play. Gustavus falls to 17-2-0, 11-1-0 in the MIAC, while St. Thomas improves to 11-7-0 overall, 9-3-0 in the league.

Gymnastics Tripped Up By Hamline 176.050-173.575

The Gustavus Adolphus gymnastics team closed out its home schedule Friday night with a 176.050-173.575 dual loss to Hamline at the Sponberg Gymnastics Studio. Gustavus' Brittany Moore took top honors on the vault with a 9.225. Both teams will take part in next Saturday's Best of Minnesota meet at the University of Minnesota.

Men’s Hockey Falls to St. Thomas 6-5

The Gustavus men's Hockey suffered its third consecutive loss with a 6-5 setback to St. Thomas on Friday night in St. Peter. The Tommies made the Gusties pay for their penalties scoring on 4-of-5 power play opportunities in the game. Nick Pernula tallied three goals and three assists for six points for St. Thomas, while five different players scored for Gustavus.
