Women’s Hockey Defeats Augsburg 8-1

The Gustavus women's hockey team scored eight unanswered goals in its 8-1 victory against Augsburg on Friday evening in St. Peter. Melissa Mackley recorded two goals for Gustavus as the Gusties had seven different players score goals. The Auggies jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the opening minutes of the first period but that was the only time Augsburg would light the lamp.

2007 Men’s Tennis Preview

The Gustavus Adolphus men's tennis team enters the 2007 spring season as somewhat of an unknown quantity. The team returns only two players off last season's NCAA Tournament lineup, but if last fall's Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional is any indication of how the Gustavus men's tennis team will rebound, the outlook for Spring 2007 looks favorable.

Matt Stewart Named SwimmingWorldmagazine.com National Swimmer of the Week

Gustavus sophomore Matt Stewart has been named SwimmingWorldmagazine.com National Swimmer of the Week. SwimmingWorldmagazine.com takes the Division I, Division II, and Division III Swimmers of the Week chosen by Collegeswimming.com and selects one male and female Collegiate Swimmer of the Week. Stewart is the first Gustavus swimmer ever to have been selected as the National All-Division Swimmer of the Week.

Lauren Wallerius Named MIAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus College senior diver Lauren Wallerius (Albertville, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) has been named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 4, 2007. Wallerius won both diving competitions in Saturday's dual against UW-Stevens Point, setting a new school record and achieving an NCAA qualifying score on the three-meter board.

Women’s Basketball Rolls Past St. Thomas 54-35

The Gustavus women's basketball team limited St. Thomas to 11 points in the first half and 24 in the second half on its way to a convincing 54-35 win in St. Peter on Wednesday night. The Gusties, who improve to 19-3 overall and 16-3 in the MIAC, were led by Jess Vadnais with 22 points.

Men’s Basketball Topples No. 3 St. Thomas 80-74 in Overtime

The Gustavus Adolphus men's basketball team outscored St. Thomas 16-10 in overtime and locked up its seventh straight MIAC Playoff bid with an 80-74 win over the third-ranked Tommies Wednesday night in St. Peter. St. Thomas' Bryan Schnettler hit seven three-pointers and finished with a game-high 32 points. Trevor Wittwer led Gustavus with 23 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the field and 7-of-9 from the free throw line.

Scott Hagemeyer Named MIAC Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus College senior Scott Hagemeyer (Willmar, Minn.) has been named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 4, 2007. In a recent dual with UW-Stevens Point on February 3, Hagemeyer won the 100 free and 100 backstroke, and was the anchor of the winning 200 free relay.

Women’s Swimming Drops Dual Meet with UW-Stevens Point

The Gustavus women's swimming team wrapped up its 2006-07 regular season with a dual meet on Saturday against UW-Stevens Point in the Lund Center Natatorium. The Pointers defeated the Gusties 209-110. Senior diver Lauren Wallerius led Gustavus with first place finishes in both the one- and three-meter diving events.

Josh Sorenson Named MIAC Track and Field Performer of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus College senior Josh Sorenson has been named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Field Performer of the Week for the week ending February 5, 2007. Sorenson provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships with an indoor school-record vault of 15' 7 1/4" at the MSU Open last weekend.

Women’s Basketball Struggles in 49-46 Loss to Concordia

The Gustavus women's basketball team's 10-game win streak came to a screeching halt with an agonizing 49-46 loss to Concordia in St. Peter on Monday night. The Gusties shooting was as cold as the temperature outside and the Cobbers came up with the big baskets when they needed them as Concordia swept the season series and knocked Gustavus out of first place in the MIAC. Jess Vadnais led Gustavus with 13 and Melanie Hageman led Concordia with 22.
