Gustavus Adolphus College first year goalie Sarah Windhorst (Eden Prairie, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret’s) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending February 4, 2007. Windhorst posted a 2-0-0 record with 39 saves on the week in wins at then-No. 5 UW-Superior (4-2) and at rival St. Thomas (8-0). Windhorst did not play in Saturday’s 1-0 loss to the Tommies.

In Friday’s game against St. Thomas, Windhorst made 22 saves and picked up her third shutout of the season while improving to 9-0-0 overall. She made nine saves in both the first and third periods.

Windhorst, who has not declared a major, is the daughter of William and Marie Windhorst of Eden Prairie and a 2006 graduate of Benilde-St. Margaret’s High School.

Gustavus, which fell to third in the most recent USCHO.com Division III Women’s Hockey Poll, is 17-2-0 overall and currently leads the MIAC with an 11-1-0 record heading into this weekend’s home-and-home series with Augsburg (7-8-4, 4-5-3 MIAC).
