The Gustavus volleyball team remained unbeaten in conference play with an impressive 3-2 win over #16 Carleton in Northfield on Wednesday night. The Gusties rallied from a 2-1 deficit to win the match in five games (24-30, 30-23, 13-30, 30-27, 15-9). Coach Kari Eckheart’s squad is now 10-3 overall and 2-0 in the MIAC, while Carleton falls to 6-4 overall and 1-2 in the MIAC.
Junior outside hitter Andrea Kron (Cold Spring, Minn.) led the Gustavus attack with 22 kills and a .270 attack percentage, while junior middle hitter Jennifer Thelemann (LeSueur, Minn.) turned in strong all-around performance with 20 kills (.380 attack percentage) and 5 total blocks. Sophomore libero Emily Klein (Red Wing, Minn.) recorded 38 digs to lead the Gustie defensive effort. Klein’s 38 digs is the second highest single match total in the program’s history. Sophomore setter Bridget Burtzel (Cold Spring, Minn.) also turned in a fine effort with 59 set assists.
Gustavus will continue conference play with two matches on the road this weekend. The Gusties will face Augsburg in Minneapolis on Friday night at 7:00 pm and then St. Kate’s on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 pm.
