Gustavus Adolphus College sophomore wide receiver Chad Arlt (St. Michael, Minn.) has been named to the D3Football.com Team of the Week for week 2 of the 2006 season after making eight catches for 188 yards and two touchdowns in the Gusties’ 35-7 season-opening win at Willamette (Ore.) University last weekend. Arlt made seven catches for 173 yards and both touchdowns in the first half alone.
Arlt caught touchdown passes of 44 and 3 yards from quarterback Jordan Stolp and helped set up two others. He recovered a Willamette fumble on the opening kickoff which led to a 15-yard Adam Lukes touchdown run and later caught a 46-yard pass from Stolp down to the 2-yard line which led to a 1-yard Lukes touchdown run. Arlt also had one rush for six yards.
The 188 receiving yards posted by Arlt last weekend ranks as the second-best single-game effort in Golden Gustie history, while his eight catches against the Bearcats ranks fourth all-time at Gustavus for a single game. Arlt’s yardage total trails only Rich Ryan’s 228-yard effort against Washington (Mo.) University in 1976. Arlt also had three catches of 44+ yards against Willamette (44, 46, 47). For his career, Arlt has 13 grabs for 335 yards, an average of 25.8 yards per catch.
