Women’s Tennis Downs Nationally-Ranked Amherst and Tufts

The fourth-ranked Gustavus women’s tennis team posted a pair of wins over nationally-ranked Amherst and Tufts during the first two days of play at the Fab Five Women’s Tennis Tournament hosted by Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. The Gusties defeated #3 Amherst 5-3 Saturday and #27 Tufts 6-3 Sunday afternoon to move to 16-2 overall.

Gustavus took five of six doubles matches during the two duals, with the duos of Tara Houlihan (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) and Lyndsey Palen (Sr., Rochester, Minn.) at #1 doubles and Marla Menne (White Bear Lake, Minn.) and Lauren Hom (Jr., Stevens Point, Wis.) at #2 doubles posting wins in both matches.

Menne and Palen each also posted a pair of singles wins.

All teams will take Monday off, with Gustavus also off on Tuesday before returning to the courts Wednesday afternoon to face host Washington and Lee, the second ranked team in Division III. The Gusties will wrap up their stay in Virginia Thursday morning with a match against eighth-ranked Williams College.
