Gustavus Adolphus men’s hockey defenseman Jon Keseley (Jr., St. Louis Park, Minn.), who led the Gusties in scoring this season with 41 points, has been named to the RBK Hockey Division III All-America West Second Team by the American Hockey Coaches Association. This is second consecutive season a Gustavus men’s hockey player has been honored. Keith Detlefsen was honored with a second-team selection last season. A total of eight players from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference were honored.
Keseley led all Gustavus players with 41 points on 17 goals and 24 assists, scoring at least one point in 22 of Gustavus’ 26 games this season. Keseley became the first Gustie since the 1995-96 season to post 40 points in a season. He started the season on a 13-game scoring streak before being shut out at home against Saint Mary’s in late December. Keseley also registered a Gustavus season-high five points (2g, 3a) in a wild 7-5 win over league champion St. Thomas in mid-February. Keseley closed the season ranking as the nation’s top scoring defenseman, averaging 1.58 points per game on one of the nation’s best scoring offenses (4.46 goals/game). Keseley also finished the season second in the MIAC behind Augsburg’s Aaron Johnson (13g, 35a) in scoring.
The Gusties finished the season 14-11-1 overall, 9-7 in the MIAC to post a fifth-place league finish. Gustavus made the MIAC Playoffs this year for the fifth consecutive season.
