The Gustavus women’s tennis team ran its record to 3-1 on the season with its second win over Division II University of Nebraska-Omaha in as many days. Lyndsey Palen (Sr., Rochester, Minn.) and Darcy Haubrick (Jr., Elk River, Minn.) were both double-winners for the Gusties.
Gustavus led 2-1 following doubles play after defending Division III doubles champions Tara Houlihan (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) and Palen picked up an 8-3 win over Katie Schmidt and Abby Wilson at #1 doubles and Haubrick and Hannah Frericks (Jr., Sartell, Minn.) won 8-4 at #2 doubles over Amy Pierson and Rachel Faulk. Kelsey Cochran and Maggie Russell dealt the Gusties a small setback at #3 doubles when they prevailed 8-5 over Jenny Arnfelt (So., Arden Hills, Minn.) and Alex Burleigh (So., Verona, Wis.).
The schools split the six singles matches with the top three ending with a super tie-breaker. Schmidt exacted a little revenge at #1 singles, tripping up Houlihan 3-6, 6-2, 10-6, while Palen was pushed to the brink at #2 singles before winning 0-6, 7-5, 10-5 over Russell. Frericks was the second Gustie to fall in a super-breaker, defeated at #3 singles by Rachel Faulk 2-6, 7-5, 10-5.
Haubrick and Burleigh picked up straight set wins at #4 and #6 singles, respectively, while Arnfelt fell to Abby Wilson at #5 singles 6-1, 6-2.
