Women’s Gymnastics Picks Up Dual Meet Win Against UW-Stout

The Gustavus gymnastics team outscored the University of Wisconsin-Stout 171.60 to 166.975 to claim its second dual meet victory of the season. The Gusties were led by Christine Askham who finished first on the uneven bars (8.90), Nicole Gergen who finished first on the balance beam (8.90), and Danielle Abel who tied for first on the vault (9.35). The Gusties scored season high scores on the vault (45.05), on the balance beam (42.60), and on the floor exercise (43.35).

The Gusties started the meet slowly as they scored a season low 40.60 on the uneven parallel bars. Christine Askham led the way by finishing first with a total of 8.90 and Laura Hansen finished second with a score of 8.55. Others scoring for the team included Emily Pickford (8.125), Danielle Abel (7.975), and Audrey Schenewerk (7.05).

Coach Kris Glidden’s team responded to its slow start with strong performances on the vault, floor, and beam. On the vault, Danielle Abel tied for first with a career best score of 9.350. Brittany Moore finished fourth (9.10), Emily Pickford placed fifth (9.00), Danielle Berg finished sixth (8.90), and Catherine Osterhaus placed seventh (8.70).

The Gusties then moved on to the floor where they placed three competitors in the top five. Christine Askham led the way as she placed second with a career best score of 9.00. Askham was followed by Dana Ryerson who finished fourth with a total of 8.70, and Catherine Osterhaus who placed fifth with a total of 8.65. Others scoring for Gustavus were Nicole Gergen (8.50) and Emily Pickford (8.50).

The team finished the meet by posting a season high score of 42.60 on the balance beam. Nicole Gergen finished first with a score of 8.90 and Catherine Osterhaus finished second with a score of 8.80. Others contributing included Laura Hansen (8.50), Jaime Tsurasaki (8.30), and Kelsie Droogsma (8.10).

The Gusties, who are now 2-1 in dual meets this season, will host the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in a dual meet on Saturday, January 28 at 1:00 pm.
