Women’s Swimming and Diving Fifth at UW-Stevens Point

The Gustavus women’s swimming and diving team picked up five top-eight finishes (two individual, three relay) en route to a fifth-place finish Saturday at the Get to the Point Invitational hosted by UW-Stevens Point. The University of North Dakota racked up 1073 points to take the team title, while the Gusties scored 284.5 points to finish 3.5 points ahead of sixth-place Minnesota State Mankato.

Yoshi Ludwig (Jr., St. Peter, Minn.) picked up the highest individual finish for the Gusties, finishing sixth in the 100 butterfly with a 1:02.18 clocking. Ludwig also finished 12th in the 200 butterfly (2:22.88) and 15th in the 200 individual medley (2:21.65).

Sophomore Sara Pfau (Bismarck, N.D.) scored the other Gustavus A-final finish, placing seventh in the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:03.84, while also finishing 11th in the 200 individual medley (2:19.73) and 13th in the 200 backstroke (2:20.43).

Britta Nelson (Fy., Morrison, Colo.) recorded the top B-final finish with a ninth-place finish in the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:19.16. Junior Laura Watkins (Fargo, N.D.) added a tenth-place finish in the 50 freestyle following a 26.04 second clocking.

Elizabeth Hartman (Jr., Eagan, Minn.), competing in the freestyle distance races, added three B-final finishes for Gustavus, adding 12th-place finishes in the 500 freestyle (5:29.74) and 1650 freestyle (19:13.53) to go with a 13th-place finish in the 200 freestyle (2:05.18).

The Gusties picked up a majority of their points in the relays, led by seventh-place finishes in both the 200 freestyle relay (1:43.52) and the 200 medley relay (1:57.51). Gustavus also finished eighth in the 800 freestyle relay (8:24.58), ninth in the 400 freestyle relay (3:49.69) and 12th in the 400 medley relay (4:23.07) with its top relay teams.

The Gusties will participate in a pair of MIAC duals on Jan. 27 and 28. Gustavus will face Macalester in St. Paul on Friday evening and return home to face College of Saint Benedict at Lund Natatorium on Saturday afternoon.
