The Gustavus Nordic skiing team sent four skiiers to Madison, Wis. on Jan. 14 and 15 to compete in the Capital Square Sprints. Sophomore Kathleen DeWahl (St. Paul, Minn.) and Kelly Chaudoin (Ely, Minn.) advanced to the elimination round in the Olympic Juniors division, placing third and seventh, respectively. Freshmen Justin Young (Roseville, Minn.) and Eli Anoszko (Dousman, Wis.) competed in the Olympic Juniors division for the Gustavus men, but failed to qualify for the finals.
DeWahl placed fifth in the preliminary round with a 3:06.73 clocking, while Chaudoin qualified eighth in a time of 3:10.40.
DeWahl finished second in her elimination semifinal to advance to the championship final. Competing in the same semifinal, Chaudoin finished fourth and was relegated to the consolation final. Each finished third of four racers in their respective final to capture third and seventh places, respectively.
Young recorded a time of 2:39.40 en route to a 12th place qualifying position. Anoszko completed the course in a time of 2:47.80 to finish 15th. Only the top eight moved to the elimination rounds.
